When tragedy seemed imminent, one man's courage and instinct transformed a potentially devastating story into one of hope and heroism.

Mattia Aguzzi, the man at the center of this courageous act, has stolen a little girl from a seemingly inevitable fate. Despite the general admiration for him, Aguzzi shies away from the title of "hero", stating that anyone in his place would have acted in the same way.

What happened? The dynamics of the accident

It was a day like many others when a girl of about 4 years old she found herself in a very dangerous situation, falling from the fifth floor of a building in via Nizza a Torino.
Reports indicate that the baby was at home with her parents, who had momentarily left the room.

The shutter on the window was down, but not enough to prevent the little girl from reaching the balcony. Unaware of the dangers, the little girl climbed onto a deckchair and reached the railing.

The rescue of the little girl

THU Mattia Aguzzi, a simple bank employee in that moment of transition, becomes the undisputed protagonist of this story. Alerted by a resident of the opposite building, Mattia immediately reacted. With a quick and precise calculation of the girl's fall path, he positioned himself to cushion her impact.

The price to pay it was a chest contusion, but the result was decisive: the baby is alive. She is currently under observation at the Regina Margherita children's hospital, but she is essentially unharmed.

The words of Mattia Aguzzi, the savior of the child

Despite the enthusiasm and gratitude of public opinion, including a comment from the premier Giorgia Meloni, Mattia Aguzzi remains humble.

“I was just hoping I could catch her”

He also adds that he doesn't believe in fate, but attributes the whole affair to pure chance.

“I was only there because I had to buy bread for a relative”.

When asked if he realizes his heroic act, his answer is sober:

“Let's not exaggerate, anyone would have tried.”
