Naples candidate for Euro 2032, Maradona Stadium renovation

Naples is proposed as one of 10 Italian cities candidates to host the matches of the UEFA Euro 2032 Football Championships. The Municipality of Naples has given the green light to a resolution that provides for the restoration the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, in order to comply with UEFA standards.

The candidacy of Napoli, complete with all the necessary documentation, will be sent to the Football Federation and UEFA by 12th April. The final outcome of UEFA on the Italian bid is expected October 2023.

International ambitions and strategies of the Manfredi junta

The administration led by Manfredi aims to enhance the proposal and to consolidate it international projection of Naples. Currently, the city is involved in the selection for the title of European Capital of Sport 2026, promoted by Aces Europe. The intent is to enhance the international prestige of Naples through participation in large-scale events, such as the 2032 European Football Championships.

UEFA's decision regarding the allocation of UEFA Euro 2032 is expected for October 2023. For the candidacy, Naples will have to adhere to theHost City Agreement and ensure the availability of the stadium, as well as engage in the restructuring and adaptation of the sports facility, which currently does not meet UEFA standards.

The Italian cities involved and the support for the candidacy

The FIGC has presented to UEFA the Italian application for the final phase of the European Championships, proposing the involvement of 10 cities and their stadiums. The president of the Football Federation informed the mayor Manfredi and Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of Calcio Napoli, of the formalization of the Italian proposal, requesting confirmation of the interest in hosting the event and participating in the application process. The mayor and De Laurentiis responded favorably, pledging to offer the necessary support for the presentation of the proposal.

European Football Championship 2032 and the economic benefits

The European Football Championships will be held for 30 days between June and July 2032, involving 10 Italian stadiums. The participation of 24 national teams communities will attract a large number of foreign enthusiasts to the city, with positive effects on thelocal economy.
