Review of the Osteria "Il Gobbetto" in via Sergente Maggiore.

We will not move too far from the location of Pa-tatà, a place we presented last week, to make you discover this tavern in the heart of the alleys of via Toledo.

The local

The restaurant overlooks one of the alleys leading to Via Toledo but is clearly signposted from the street. The entrance, with its blue and white majolica tiles, stands out from the alley.

The whole is very special: the walls are painted to give the illusion of still being on the street and the furniture helps this impression. Certainly a strong point for a tourist venue. In addition, the waiters are dressed in period clothing.

Don't be scared , though. It's a touristy place, but that doesn't mean quality is compromised! The family- run management is well-established, and the wait for a table is truly minimal.

The menu

The menu has fixed dishes, especially fish, but is enriched every day with something new depending on the market. The fish is taken, for example, in a famous fish market in the Quartieri.

There are also first courses for vegetarian people: gnocchi of the gobbetto, for example, made with tomatoes and a sprinkling of cheese.

The Gobbetto appetizer ( 8 euros per person ) is famous and is plentiful and allows you to try many typical flavors.

The order

We ordered a portion of fried anchovies that the waiter had recommended to us.

Not only was the fish very fresh , but the frying was very light . We asked for clarification and were told that the frying oil is changed every day !!! Cost of the fish: 8 euros.

We continued with eggplant parmigiana and zucchini parmigiana , which we had chosen from the side dishes. We liked the eggplant parmigiana better, but the quality was good, both in terms of preparation and ingredients.

Cost of the evening? 15 euros!!!

Conclusion

This restaurant is certainly geared toward tourism, but it hasn't sacrificed its good food for cheap, mediocre fare. The fish is incredibly fresh , as are the other ingredients. Unlike many osterias, it doesn't have a low-price lunch menu, but it maintains reasonable prices for both lunch and dinner. In any case, with a first course (aside from the paccheri con il coccio) and a second course, the bill shouldn't exceed €15 per person. The staff is extremely friendly , knowledgeable, and not pushy. Definitely worth a try!

We found out that the restaurant also has pasta for celiacs!
