Tribute to Neapolitan art of the seventeenth century through the works of Tanzio da Varallo, Battistello Caracciolo and Caravaggio, at the Gallerie d'Italia in Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano

It will be inaugurated this evening, 23 October at 19, at the Gallerie d'Italia of Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano, the exhibition dedicated to the seventeenth-century painter Antonio D'Enrico, better known as Tanzio da Varallo, of which the works realized in Naples are exhibited.

From 24 October 2014 to 11 January 2015 it will be possible to visit the exhibition Painting in Naples in the early seventeenth century. Tanzio da Varallo meets Caravaggio, which includes thirty works both by the famous artist of the seventeenth century, and by other painters present in the Viceroyalty, the so-called "Close circle" of Caravaggio, according to the famous definition by Roberto Longhi) who, like Tanzio, immediately confronted Caravaggio's painting: Battistello Caracciolo, Cavalier D'Arpino, Louis Finson, Carlo Sellitto, Filippo Vitale, in addition to the same Michelangelo Merisi, represented on display by the splendid Martyrdom of Saint Ursula.

The exhibition is a real one homage to the Neapolitan art of the seventeenth century and its major exponents, those who were influenced by the style and technique of the famous Caravaggio, and who dictated with him the Neapolitan artistic history of the time. The exhibition itinerary focuses on the innovative aspects of the figure of the artist and inside it will be presented a specially created documentary that brings to the knowledge of the visitors the main events of the artistic career of Tanzio da Varallo.

The inauguration of the exhibition will take place at the 19 of the 23 October 2014, with a reading of texts on the life of Tanzio by Iaia forte (free admission subject to availability). The Galleries of Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano welcome visitors free Friday 24, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October 2014.

The exhibition is organized by Intesa Sanpaolo in collaboration with the Special Superintendence for the PSAE and for the Polo Museale of the city of Naples and the Royal Palace of Caserta, the Superintendence for the Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage of Abruzzo and the Testori Association, and is sponsored by the MIBACT - Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities and Tourism and by the Municipality of Naples.
Curated by Maria Cristina Terzaghi, she includes in her Scientific Committee Lucia Arbace, Marco Bona Castellotti, Filippo Maria Ferro, Francesco Frangi, Fabrizio Magani, Giuseppe Porzio, Fabrizio Vona.
