The thermal complex of Via Terracina in Naples

Thermal complex of via Terracina in Naples

The term

Il thermal complex of Via Terracina was brought to light in the 1939 during the construction of the Mostra d'Oltremare in Fuorigrotta.

The structure, then powered bySerino aqueduct, has been dated around the first half of the 2nd century AD, but the changes made over the centuries are evident. The most used construction methods are theopus vittatum e latericium.

Very interesting, but unfortunately badly preserved, are the mosaic floor decorations with white and black tesserae depicting, in one case, a fantastic sea animal and two dolphins, in another a marvelous nereide sitting on a triton and flanked by two cupids and a dolphin.
