The pool

The so-called Piscina Mirabilis consists of largest Roman cistern of drinking water known to date. It was aimed at providing water fleet of the Roman Empire moored at the port of Miseno.

The cistern, in fact, has a capacity of 12.ooo m3 of water and has a depth of 15 mt. It is dug into the tufa and is covered by a barrel vault supported by 48 cross-section pillars. The source that was used was the sources of the Serino, in the Avellino area, which supplied Neapolitan and Campi Flegrei with water.
