The palace

The neoclassical and marvelous Reggia di Portici was built in 1738 as summer residence of Bourbon royal family. Built on the slopes of Vesuvius, it still has a large area upper forest which was used for hunting and an ornamental downstream. Among those who worked on its construction include Luigi Vanvitelli and Ferdinando Fuga.

The Museum

The finds from the excavations in progress of Herculaneum and Pompeii were then placed in the rooms of the Palace giving life, in the 1758, to theHerculanense Museum which became a privileged destination of the Grand Tour.

The Botanical Garden

In the 1872 the Palace and the Park were assigned to the Royal High School of Agriculture which, within the soprano garden, founded the Botanical Garden until it became the 1935 la Faculty of Agriculture University of Naples Federico II.

Opening time:

  • Thursday: from 15: 00 to 18: 30.
  • From Friday to Sunday: from 9: 30 to 18: 30.
    * in the winter period the last access to the Botanical Gardens will be allowed up to one hour before sunset.

Price tickets:

  • Full: euro 5,00.
  • Reduced: 3,00 euro valid every Thursday from 15: 00 at 18: 30 and for all visitors between 6 and 17 years and for university students, every first Sunday of the month
  • Minors of 6 years, disabled and their companion, journalists and tour guides in the exercise of their professional activity: free
  • Combined with Pietrarsa: full euro 9 | reduced: euro 6
  • Saturday at the Museums with the family: euro 18,00 (from 14: 00, family unit consisting of two adults and two minors).

  • Ferrovie dello Stato, Portici-Ercolano station, then bus 177, Umberto-villa Comunale stop, turn right at Piazza San Ciro and continue on foot for about 8 minutes
