Solfatara

The solfatara

The Solfatara di Pozzuoli, a destination for tourists since the time of the Grand Tour, is one of the around 40 volcanoes that characterize the territory of the Campi Flegrei.

In the Solfatara you can witness the phenomenon of the fumaroles due to the incessant volcanic activity of the subsoil, to the condensation of water vapor determined by approaching a small flame to a fumarole and al rumble of the ground caused by a boulder that, left to fall to the ground, causes a rumble that creates the sensation of the presence, under their feet, of underground cavities (produced by the fumarole gases).

Areas of interest

The main points of interest are:

  • la Fangaia
  • la Big mouth (main fumarole)
  • il Mineral water well
  • le old stoves (natural saunas)
