The Naples Zoo
The zoo of Naples, the second zoo of Italy
Lo Naples zoo he was born in the 1940 but, due to the Second World War, he opened to the public only in the 1949 in Fuorigrotta, in the area of the Mostra d'Oltremare. This is the second zoo opened in Italy, after the one in Rome, with the aim of hosting numerous animals of many species, some endangered, such as Neapolitan goats.
Throughout the second half of the 900 the Naples zoo became place of excellence and famous throughout Europe for scientific research, given that it housed dozens of endangered animal species in their natural habitat. Among the rarest animals born in the park is the Orearragus and the vulture (first to be born in the world), the giraffe antelope (first in Europe) and the black rhinoceros (first in Italy).
Since the 80 years, the zoo has experienced a long period of abandonment due to debts accumulated by the company that managed it, which led to the closure of the 2003.
Only in the 2013 the zoo has been reborn thanks to the investment of Francesco Floro Flores, a Neapolitan entrepreneur, who found him to recover this important Neapolitan heritage.
Today the Naples Zoo has recovered its splendor, has been redeveloped and new areas dedicated to animals and educational areas for children have been created. Furthermore, the scientific research and conservation activities of endangered species have been restored, with the aim of transforming the Naples zoo into the largest avant-garde structure in Europe.
Currently in the zoo of Naples hosts 203 plant species and 96 animal species of all the five continents of the world including pachyderms, reptiles, raptors, tigers, elephants, insects, crocodiles and rare species such as the Vulture papa, the black rhinoceros, the Lycaon and several Psittaciforms.
