The door

Porta Capuana is an ancient port of the city of Naples, located close to Castel Capuano and built by the king Ferrante of Aragon in the fifteenth century. Over the centuries it has represented an important junction and communication point.

The current conformation is the result of a modernization. The niche was first painted in the middle of the seventeenth century with the representation of San Michele Arcangelo, when the city had been hit by a plague epidemic, and later frescoed with the representation of the Immaculate in the 1837.
