The Procession of San Gennaro will take place on May 6, 2017, during which the Reliquary Bust and the Temple containing the vials of San Gennaro's blood will be honored, as well as the busts depicting the Patron Saints.
The event is organized to commemorate the transfer of the relics of the Saint from the cemetery located in the Agro Marciano to the Catacombs of Capodimonte , currently called San Gennaro, and the martyr is invoked to perform the miracle of the liquefaction of the blood.
Timeline
The route will start from the Duomo at 17.00 pm and will continue through the streets of the historic centre, touching various stops: Via dei Tribunali , Via delle Zite a Forcella, San Biagio dei Librai, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore and Via Benedetto Croce, until reaching the Basilica of Santa Chiara.
At the conclusion of the procession, a Eucharistic celebration will take place at 6:00 PM , officiated by the Archbishop of Naples, Crescenzio Sepe. Throughout the following week, the shrine containing the ampoules of the patron saint's blood will be on display in the Royal Chapel of the Treasury so that the faithful, and others, can venerate him by kissing the relics.
