From 2023 January 20 the increases on fuel came into force, around XNUMX cents per litre. In reality, rather than increases, the tax relief on fuel excises activated a few months ago by the government to deal with expensive energy has disappeared.

The Meloni Government, in fact, has decided not to renew this reduction in fuel excise duties from 1 January 2023, thus leading to the restoration of the original prices.

When was the excise cut introduced and how much did it reduce the price?

The measure to cut fuel excise duties was decided by the Draghi government, it provided for a reduction of 30,5 cents per liter of the retail price (25 cents for VAT numbers excluding VAT). This provision remained active from March to November, the month in which it was renewed but with a minor cut in excise duties which were now reduced by 18.3 cents from 1st to 31st December.

Following the increases, many motorists have folded to go "across the border" to fill up, this is because the prices in the Principality of San Marino are considerably lower given that the excise duties applied are lower. In addition, the San Marino government has extended the cut in their excise duties until 31 January.
