In the heart of Naples, the lively street of San Gregorio Armeno comes alive as Christmas approaches, becoming a cross between tradition and novelty. Like every year, the decision to return the route was confirmed a one-way pedestrian route from 2 to 24 December, even if with some bad mood.

The new face of the pedestrian path

The historic shops of handcrafted cribs they are therefore now immersed in a unidirectional flow of visitors who will therefore have to go up San Gregorio Armeno starting from Via San Biagio dei Librai.

The goal is to better manage pedestrian traffic, but merchants fear this choice can affect the quality of the experience of passers-by, reducing the dwell time, the appreciation of their works and, of course, the expenditure.

Adding to the inconveniences is the problem of lack of signage, still not installed to date, which it is confusing tourists and citizens quite a bit.

Craftsmen against one-way traffic

The issue of one-way traffic divides: there are those who see it as an opportunity and those who see it as an obstacle. Enzo Capuano, a central figure among the artisans, expresses concern about how this choice could influence the activity of the workshops and the atmosphere of the street.

Everyone calls me, and especially the shops in the square, because of the one-way system in force. I had proposed it alternately, one side of the road per week to satisfy all the craftsmen. But the Municipality has established a one-way uphill route. There is bad mood

The white night of San Gregorio Armeno

Il 7th December, the street lights up with celebration for the White Night, an event that brings back to life ancient family traditions of local artisans. The shops remain open all night, offering visitors a unique blend of culture, art and festivities.

Amidst these changes, a uniting project also stands out art and solidarity: a nativity scene created in collaboration with disabled children, a symbol of inclusion and artistic expression that goes far beyond simple aesthetic value.
