The 2023 New Year's greeting dive returns to Naples

After the years of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the Neapolitan traditions di end of the year: auspicious dive New Year's Eve in Naples, the so-called cement winter.

This custom dates back to approx 10 years do like rite superstitious to finish and start the new year in the best way. The tradition is based on the strong popular belief according to which the water, being purifier, gives us the energy to face life. Its origins seem to come from Netherlands in the 1960s, where some swimmers decided to start the year with a swim in the ocean Scheveningen.

A Napoli arrived from 2012 thanks to Christian Avallone and Roberto Di Maio, who have been involved in volunteering and donating blood for years.

Appointment at Mappatella Beach on New Year's Day

The appointment in 2023 Will be held the first January 12:00 at the so-called "Mappatella Beach", near the Rotonda Diaz.

Here the citizens will gather to dive into the sea together, in order to prove themselves courageous through an "icy" dive which at the same time, however, is a practice accessible to all and which can be lived in a carefree way.
