Oplonti

Oplonti or Oplontis, current Torre Annunziata, is located a short distance from Pompei and Stabia. It constituted the suburban extension of Pompeii and, in the eruption of the 79 AD, he shared its fate.

Already in the eighteenth century the first ones were started excavations which brought to light part of what will later be considered later villa of Poppea, second wife of the emperor Nero.

Recent excavations

During the 1839 / 40 period other excavations were carried out, suspended later due to lack of funds. They were resumed again from the 1964 near the villa of Poppea. In the same area, in 1974, during the construction of a school, a new villa was brought to light Lucio Crasso Tertius.
