The Curiocity association organized an evocative guided tour of the Rione Sanità and the Fontanelle Cemetery

The Curiocity association organized Sunday March 22 2015 a guided walk in the Health District of Naples (whose toponym perhaps derives from the miracles done by buried saints or from the healthiness of the area) and a visit to the famous Cemetery of the Fontanelle.

The tour, entitled Princely Anime and Pezzentelle Anime, will stop in the ancient places of the soul of Naples, including Palazzo Spagnuolo, Palazzo Sanfelice, the house of the prince of laughter Totò, the Church of Santa Maria della Sanità and finally the Fontanelle Cemetery.

The latter, called by the Neapolitans 'O campusanto d' e Funtanelle, is an ancient cemetery, so called because in the past it had several flowing water sources. Inside lie the remains of the victims of the great plague of 1656 and of the cholera of 1836.

The detail took place in the cemetery popular rite of "pezzentelle souls", that is, abandoned, whose skulls were "adopted" by devotees who placed them in wooden cases, lighting them with candles and praying the dead man to appear in a dream and give winning numbers to play at the lottery counter.

An interesting and suggestive visit not to be missed, especially if you have never gone to the discovery of these places. The appointment is from 10 to Porta San Gennaro.
