The international swimming marathon par excellence will make the last stop in the Gulf of Naples with the Capri-Naples crossing
The waters of the splendid Gulf of Naples will welcome again the final stage of the Gulf of Capri-Naples Marathon, the international cross-country swimming crossing which reaches its 49th edition this year.
The "historic" event will be held Sunday 7 September 2014 starting at 9:30 am, when the race will officially start from the island of Capri. In the meantime, from 10:00, the Marathon Village in Naples will be set up, to wait for the swimmers who will be awarded at 15:45.
La Gulf of Capri-Naples Marathon it has its origins in 1949, when the two enthusiasts Aldo Fioravanti and Cesare Alfieri were the first to attempt the 12-hour crossing from Naples to Capri by swimming, with an average of 30 strokes per minute.
Over the years the journey has turned into a fixed appointment with competitive swimming (with a long 10-year break until 2003) becoming a fundamental stage of the "World Grand Prix FINA", the swimming marathon par excellence, certainly one of the most difficult to tackle and the longest among those that take place in the open sea. This year's novelty concerns the assignment to the winners of the “Cooperative Credit Bank of Naples” trophy.
Sunday September 7 2014 it will therefore be possible to witness the arrival, at the stretch of water in front of the Naples seafront, of the internationally renowned swimmers who will depart from the Marina Grande of Capri.
The undisputed protagonists of the last two editions of the International Marathon have been Martina Grimaldi, which won the previous edition of the Capri-Naples, also qualifying first for the Europeans in Berlin, and Edoardo Stochino, who finished second in the 2012 edition and has already confirmed his participation in the Capri-Naples 2014 crossing.
