An unmissable exhibition at the Madre Museum in Naples that reveals the eternal link between the archaeological past of Pompeii and contemporary art.
Pompeii @ Mother. Archaeological matter is the title of the unmissable exhibition to be held at Mother Museum of Naples for about a year, from the 19 November 2017 to the 24 September 2018, and which inaugurates the unprecedented collaboration between the Pompeii Archaeological Park and the Campania regional museum of contemporary art.
The project is edited by Massimo Osanna, Director General of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, and from Andrea Viliani, Director General of the Madre Museum, Donnaregina Museum of Contemporary Art in Naples, with curatorial coordination for the modern section of Luigi Gallo.
The exhibition will allow visitors to discover the multiple relationships existing between our archaeological heritage, consisting of the works and artefacts from the excavations of Pompeii, and the documents belonging to the experimental artistic research, proposing an unusual dialogue between Pompeii archaeological materials and modern and contemporary works of art.
The inauguration of the exhibition will be held on Saturday 18 November 2017 with free admission. For the occasion there will be an aperitif from the 17.00 offered by Feudi di San Gregorio.
Pompeii @ Mother. Archaeological matter: a contemporary heritage
The new exhibit on display at the Museo Madre collects the works more than modern and contemporary artists and intellectuals from 90, like Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Johann Joachim Winckelmann, Le Corbusier, François-René de Chateaubriand, Le Corbusier, Andy Warhol, Fausto Melotti, Mark Dion, Jimmie Durham, Laure Prouvost, Adrián Villar Rojas and many others.
Pompeii @ Mother it is divided into two sections:
- Pompeii @ Mother. Archaeological matter, located on the third floor of the museum and scheduled from 19 November 2017 to 30 April 2018.
- Pompeii @ Mother. Archaeological Matter: Collections, located in the entrance and on the first floor of the museum, and scheduled from 19 November 2017 to 24 September 2018.
Visitors will be immersed in a path that will reveal the analogies between the art of the past, in particular the "archaeological material" excavated in Pompeii in the last two and a half centuries, and contemporary subjects, contents, research and artistic processes, to demonstrate how all this collection of works, artifacts and artistic experiences do, actually part of a unique cultural heritage eternal and always contemporary.
An unprecedented path in an eternally contemporary Pompeii
The focus of this unique exhibition narrative will be the concept of "matter", intended as a method of research, conservation, cataloging, documentation and analysis of archaeological finds, but also the material nature of works, objects and artefacts that make Pompeii eternally contemporary. During this story you will be able to notice i parallelisms between original materials of the period and modern and contemporary works of art, the iconography, and also the concepts that continue for more than two and a half centuries, to emerge in the history of culture and art.
Pompeii @ Mother it is an opportunity to admire over thirty centuries of contemporaneity of the Campania Felix and the Mediterranean culture, in a single exhibition flow, in which we can feel a unique link between our common heritage, our present and the momentum towards the future.
It will therefore be possible to walk indistinctly between works, artifacts, artifacts and tools of the daily past of the ancient city of Pompeii and compare them with modern and contemporary works and documents coming from the collections of different Italian and international museums, like the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, the Museum e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, the structures of the Campania Museum, but also the National Library and the Institut Français of Naples, the House of Goethe and the Library of the Germanic Archaeological Institute of Rome, the Fondation Le Corbusier and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux- Arts of Paris, and many Italian and international private art collections.
