Laika is the show by Ascanio Celestini at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples starring an idle Jesus who returns to Earth.

Ascanio Celestini returns to Naples with a new show that will stage the Teatro Nuovo from 30 March to 2 April 2017. S is about Time, made in co-production with the Roma Europa Festival 2015 and Teatro Stabile dell'Umbria, and which tells a particular story starring Jesus. The title refers to the first dog sent into space, symbolizing "the creature closest to God", but it is also a reference to the adjective "lay".

The show, in fact, focuses on what would Jesus do and what would he think if he returned to Earth in our day and being confronted with the ever more inevitable collapse of religions and values. The same Jesus, a drunken lazy in this case, will introduce the other protagonists of the pièce: there will be Peter, the roommate who takes care of the commissions and services, the woman with a knotted head, the bum, the old, the picket porters and the prostitute. The episodes all take place in a studio apartment overlooking a supermarket with the voiceover by Alba Rohrwacher.

Jesus, the protagonist of the story, is however blind and he can only see through the eyes of Peter, who will then tell him everything that happens from the window. This expedient serves to underline the importance of acquiring the true view through someone else's eyes.

Their stories will intertwine, telling us a piece of humanity, of that humanity that must be saved and who, also thanks to them, manages to find redemption in part. A show in which daily life is narrated with all its contradictions, negativity and difficulties, through a man who leaves us in doubt: is he really the son of God or just a schizophrenic?
