Dancing with the stars vs Government: the order to make public votes. What happen

Milly Carlucci presenting Dancing with the Stars

The case of votes in the latest edition of Dancing with the Stars, won by Luisella Costamagnaback to the fore. The dispute is about the social voting for competing artists. The Commission for access to the Presidency of the Council accepted the appeal presented in December by Codacons and by the Association of Radio and Television Services Users, ordering Rai to make public all the deeds relating to public votes.

The story in detail

Following the victory contested by Luisella Costamagna, the Codacons and the Association of Radio and Television Services Users presented a formal request for access to Rai to know the results of Voting of the public collected through social networks. This request, as Codacons explains, was motivated by the numerous Required Knowledge of intervention by the viewers.

Apparently, however, the Rai refused to provide what was requested, arguing that the associations had no legal competence to question the legitimacy and transparency of public service programming.

The provision of the Presidency of the Council

La Presidency of the Council of Ministers ha rejected the refusal of Rai, deeming the appeal presented by the two associations founded in relation to the interests of the consumers they represent. The provision aims to ensure compliance with the transparency and the regularity of voting operations, in compliance with the Agcom provisions on remote voting.

The Commission has therefore ordered to Rai to review the request and to show the two associations the requested documents.

“This decision represents a hard blow for Rai, which will now have to make public all confidential documents on 'Dancing with the Stars'”, says the president of Codacons, Carlo Rienzi. “Furthermore, the provision punishes the arrogance of the network and its managers, who inexplicably denied due transparency to the citizens who finance Rai through the license fee”.
