Bike Sharing in Naples: it will start with 500 electric bikes

Bike sharing is starting again in Naples , with 500 electric bicycles arriving from Lime , a leading company in this sector that already operates in many other major cities.

Lime Technology is the company that responded to the City of Naples' public call, extended until January 2021, to find a company to manage bike sharing in the city. Lime's expression of interest was immediately accepted, and the trial in Naples will last three years.

These bikes will add to those already present in the Q8.

Hundreds of electric bicycles for bike sharing

As mentioned, there will be 500 pedal-assisted bicycles located throughout the city, and they will be managed using a free-floating model . Essentially, as with electric scooters, users rent the bike and can then leave it anywhere parking is permitted. Basically, there are no longer any racks, but the bike can be picked up and dropped off anywhere parking is permitted.

They will arrive in three different phases: 200 bikes will arrive at the beginning of the activity period and are already on the streets, another 200 will be delivered after a month , while the other 100 will arrive after two months.

Their maximum speed will be 20 km/h on streets with cars and motorcycles, a limit that will be implemented automatically and using GPS sensors. The limit will drop to 6 km/h in pedestrian zones and restricted traffic zones. Parking will be prohibited in areas of high historical and architectural value , such as Piazza Municipio, Via Partenope, Piazza Plebiscito, Borgo Marinari, the Old Town, Piazza Vanvitelli, Piazza Mercato, Via Scarlatti, Via Luca Giordano, and Castel Sant'Elmo.

Where are the electric bikes

Precisely to follow the free floating model already explained, the electric e-bikes will be found in a large part of the Naples territory, from the Lungomare to Via Gianturco up to Bagnoli , from west to east.
