Reports of death are an act, unfortunately, necessary in case a loved one passes away. The purpose of the death report is the preparation of the death certificate, following which it is possible to start the procedures at the INPS and the issuance of the burial permit andregistry update small town.

Until 9 January 2023, the operation could be carried out in the 10 municipalities of the city, referring to that of the deceased's residence, but the operation often resulted in considerable confusion as each office had its own separate regulations and timetables.

The Municipality of Naples has therefore decided to close the various offices located on the Neapolitan territory and of open a single office active starting from 9 January 2023.

Where is the office located

The single office is available at via Santa Maria del Pianto no. 146 (near the Poggioreale cemetery), open every day from 8:30 to 13:00 including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

How to report a death in Naples

It is necessary to present oneself at the aforementioned office with the documentation, in case of death at home obviously one of the closest relatives or the funeral home company duly delegated by the family must take care of it, if the death occurred in the hospital the health administration will take care of forwarding the notification of the death, while the family can refer to a funeral home to complete the paperwork.

Documents required for death notification

The necessary documents are the following:

  • Identity document or proxy of a family member of the deceased
  • Necropsy certificate and ISTAT form if the death occurred at home
  • Death notice and ISTAT form if the death occurred in hospital

The death certificate is delivered immediately, there is no need to wait.
