The origins of the popular celebration date back to the sixteenth century when, during the eighth of Easter, some hens, casually and unusually, unearthed a tablet depicting the Madonna del Carmine, hidden underground to escape the Saracen fury.

From that moment the Madonna del Carmine was nicknamed the Madonna delle Galline, which every year is brought in procession on a wagon, on which the faithful leave hens, birds, tortani, sweets and taralli as a sign of devotion.

The religious festival will show the procession to the gates of Pagani, in the presence of small decorated votive shrines called "Toselli" and with following volatiles of all kinds and especially dancers and tammorra players, the second protagonist of the event. A real unleashed and liberating tammorra this that, in the company of castanets, chestnut and dances, will start playing from Friday in Albis until the following Monday.

Visitors, therefore, will be able to party until dawn, having fun at the rhythm marked by the tammurriatori and delighting with the typical products of the Campania tradition like casatielli, wine, tagliolini with meat sauce, roasted artichokes, traditional sweets and many other goodies.
