Day of Memory 2015 in Naples | Guided tour of the Bourbon Tunnel

0: 00 / 0: 00

On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance, a theatrical guided tour will be organized in the Bourbon Tunnel of Naples

On the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the Shoah, the cultural association Nartea and the Bourbon tunnel, they organized, for the 25 January 2015, the commemorative initiative “… and the sun went out - Shoah: the voice of Memory”.

Visitors can participate in one guided tour in the shelters that served as a hiding place during the despicable and inhuman deportation of Jews persecuted by a senseless Nazi desire for ethnic cleansing. Naples, in fact, was among the first European cities to rebel against the Nazi occupation and saved many refugees by hiding them in underground belly of the Bourbon Tunnel. He did not become an accomplice in the extermination called "ash and mud" thanks to the support of civilians and military loyal to the Southern Kingdom.

The most exciting moment of the event is represented by the sound of a violin, played by the Jewish violinist Milo Koen. Through music, Milo would like to forget that horrendous historical moment and rediscover that lost melody. Unfortunately those poignant notes do nothing but remind him of his being Jewish.

The Day of Memory should not be a sad occasion, but a moment in which past historical memories help us to understand the present and to build a better future. A future in which there are no more Shoah anywhere in the world.

The visit is included in the program of events for the 2015 Memorial Day in Naples.
