Ischia will be one of the stages of the suggestive Ice Nativity that is touring Italy

At Christmas, you know, particular attention is always given to the preparation of the crib, one of the traditions most felt by the citizens of our city, who often indulge themselves in creating truly original compositions.

A very special nativity scene, however, was created by an artist from Monte di Procida, Amelio Mazzella, a creation that will even make the tour of Italy. It is a crib made completely of ice, the largest in Italy, which will be temporarily exposed to Ischia as part of the Ischia Ice & Light Christmas program.

The work will be inaugurated on December 16, 2014 and will be exhibited for eleven days, until December 26, in the Aragonese square of the island, in Ischia Ponte, to the delight of the residents and the many tourists curious to observe it.
Installation is from record for several reasons: first, as mentioned, it will be itinerant and will travel well 4000 km around the peninsula; it will be transported on board a truck that will maintain a constant temperature between -3 and -6 degrees; will have a considerable weight, which will amount to 18 tons.

The pieces that compose it are 16, but during the trips that will make there will be a novelty: some artists they will create other pieces by modeling them live, under the eyes of visitors who will run.

The artist Mazzella is not new to such ideas, both because he is the owner of a company, based in Bacoli, which deals with ice structures, and because he was one of the competitors to Winter Olympics with the Italian Association of Ice Sculptors.

We just have to wait a few hours and the imposing and evocative ice sculpture will be there to make a fine show of itself, giving an extra touch to the upcoming Christmas holidays.
