"Traveling with the Mehari": after the "relay" an event at the Pan in Naples in memory of Giancarlo Siani and the victims of crime
Traveling with Mehari is the title of the initiative organized to celebrate the memory of Giancarlo Siani, the journalist de The morning of only 26 years killed by the camorra the 23 September 1985 aboard his car, one Citroen Mehari, near his home in Piazza Leonardo al Vomero.
A brutal and cruel murder to hit those who, with commitment and honesty, went to work hunting for the truth, but who, like so many victims of organized crime and mafia, found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, paying with his own life.
La Mehari has become, over the years, a real one emblem of memory, a symbol of the stories that have struck many other victims and other families, freedom of the press and social redemption. Almost like a sign of destiny the original Mehari by Giancarlo Siani it was found in Sicily, after being sold at a judicial auction and abandoned in a countryside.
A change of candles, oil and battery and a repainting were enough to put it back into motion and start it again for a relay began the 23 September 2013, from the place where it was "left", in via Suarez, to cross the whole city and rejoin the community. There Mehari has been guided, in turn, by different characters symbol of our history, journalism, culture and justice, starting with Roberto Saviano, up to the de The morning of via Chiatamone.
From here the Mehari will be transported, the 27 September at 17: 00, at the Pan of Naples (Palazzo delle Arti in Naples), where it will become an installation and will give rise to a series of events, debates, meetings, on the issues of press freedom and the innocent victims of crime.
A artistic installation of the Mehari it will also be realized on the Caldieri roundabout, al Vomero, as a memorial of memory wanted by the family of Giancarlo Siani.
