At the Royal Palace of Portici the Moon and Saturn will be observed during the Apollo 11 White Night

Saturday July 25 2015 will take place at national level The White Night of the Polli 11, a re-enactment evening organized for the second year by the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union (UAI).

La Palace of Portici will participate in the initiative with its own program of events, dedicated to the general public, which aims not only to remember and celebrate the most important events of the past related to astronomy, but will also be an opportunity to make interesting observations of the sky.

With the help of astronomers, in fact, it will be possible observe the Moon and Saturn, considered the most beautiful planet of our Solar System. Naturally, with the professional telescopes present, many other celestial bodies will also be observed.

During the evening will be remembered the Laika dog, the first living being to have been sent to orbit around the Earth, but also Yurij Gagarin, the first man in space and obviously the many Apollo missions. Last but not least, ours Samantha Cristoforetti, first woman in space with a record of permanence.

This year's edition will take place with the high patronage of the Italian Space Agency and it will be possible to follow the event in live streaming on the UAI website.
Everything will be preceded by one guided tour of the Botanical Garden of the Palace of Portici.

Apollo 11 White Night program

  • 19: 00: the participants will meet at the Museums ticket office, via 100 Portici University (Na)
  • 19pm – 15pm: guided tour of the Botanical Gardens of the Portici Palace
  • 20: 30- 21: 30 Presentation by Vincenzo Gallo (Head of the Astronautical Research Section of the AIA) on the White Night of the 11 Apollo in the Chinese Hall of the Palace of Portici
  • 21pm - 30pm: you will observe the Moon and Saturn through the telescope and you will be guided to the recognition of Summer stars and constellations. Organized by UAN Members at the Exedra of the Reggia
