Metro line 2 in Naples, service interrupted: an auger breaks through the tunnel and damages a train

A heavy accident happened in Piazza Garibaldi in Naples causing theinterruption of the circulation of the trains of the meter line 2.

Una auger in use by a private company that is working at a construction site in Piazza Garibaldi and has caused a chain accident that has broke through the tunnel of metro line 2 damaging a regional train that was running at the time. All of this happened after 12 noon today 12 April 2022.

The collapse of the auger, therefore, has severed the high voltage cables which are used to power the trains and a pantograph that fell on the side of the train breaking the windows. All this resulted 5 injured and of course help arrived immediately.

Line 2 of the metro was interrupted

Metro line 2 trains do not run from that time, about noon due to this chain incident. There is no news yet on the timing of the return to normal traffic.

The train that was hit by the pantograph, the tool that allows the train to connect to the electrical cables is the Regional 20931 Pozzuoli - Naples S. Giovanni Barra which was right in the tunnel where the accident happened.

In addition to the rescue, the technicians of the State Railways also arrived to try to restore the line which, however, is still blocked. In any case, I have been at work for the last few hours restoration of circulation on the Naples Gianturco - Villa Literno route.

Replacement buses

Railways has announced that it has activated a replacement shuttle bus between Napoli Centrale and S. Giovanni Barra and also of the shuttle trains that circulate between Pozzuoli and Campi Flegrei, while the trains for Salerno and Caserta have been self-replaced from Napoli Centrale.
