Good news on the Metro Line 2 front, as already known, it is the only Metro line in Naples served by Ferrovie dello Stato instead of ANM or EAV.
Many regional trains also travel on it, which is why in recent years new trains of the type "Jazz” and now the “Pop“, i.e. the ETR 103 and ETR 104.
Trenitalia's new generation fleet includes a whole new type of train whose names recall musical styles, among these we find:
- Swing
- Jazz
- Rock
- Pop
- Blues
The new trains they entered service on 20 December 2022, with Naples first Italian city where the Pops were activated. This will make it possible to considerably increase the coverage on the line given that each of these has a capacity, compared to the Jazz, of a further 100 seats, over to the bicycle rack.
How traffic and waiting times change
With all the new trains in service, journey times on the route will be cut sharply as the old fleet is retired allowing the new trains to travel faster.
It is estimated that waiting times will be reduced to 5 minutes between one train and another.
With more trains, citizens will be discouraged from using the car, as in the larger metropolises, freeing the city streets, according to estimates, of over 6000 vehicles.
