A new proposal has been put forward in Environment Commission in Naples, chaired by Carlo Migliaccio and by the Sea Resource Service, which concerns the displacement of the Museum of the sea in a location that suits your needs.

In fact, the Museum of the sea today it is located in Bagnoli, in a structure that seems to be unsuitable for the conservation and display of all the material that the Museum can offer.

The new structure for the Museo del Mare

The proposal would then put forward the idea of building a new facility using funds from the PNRR, or the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The idea is that of recreate an open space and exclusive that can accommodate all the available material and thus go to tell the seafaring aspect of the territory.

The structure must be suitable to accommodate special educational workshops which may be useful for research and for training in the trades of the sea.

We just have to wait for it decision of the Environment Commission, which will evaluate whether to accept the proposal by carrying out an inspection of the structure and analyzing the various alternative spaces that can replace the structure currently in use.

The Museum of the Sea

The Museum of the Sea was established in 1992, but was recognized in 2007 as Museum of regional interest of Campania. Currently it represents the only structure dedicated to the sea in Naples and is based in Bagnoli.

The Museum has a very interesting thematic library and is organized in four rooms:

  • Ship collections, which encompasses iron and wood constructions, shipbuilding and modern ships
  • Marine machinery collections, ancient models of boilers and marine turbines
  • Navigation equipment collections, with ancient tools to evaluate distances, themes and heights of the stars
  • Collection of radio and radio navigation equipment, with ancient radio equipment

So inside there are unique and rare objects that can tell a story, if you are passionate about the sea, ships and ancient instruments you cannot miss this museum.
