Naples celebrates the Chinese New Year in Piazza del Plebiscito

Dances, martial arts, paintings, lanterns and much more will be the protagonists of the Chinese New Year in Naples!

According to the calendar Chinese, the 19 February 2015 will celebrate the start of the new year. For the occasion, Naples will also be the theater of the upcoming New Year, At Piazza del Plebiscito, 21 February 2015.

The event, curated by the Confucius Institute of the L'Orientale University and with the support of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality, will pay homage to the beginning of"Year of the Goat" through martial arts performances, painting activities, kites and many other initiatives.

Flagship of the eastern anniversary, also known as Spring Festival, will be the infamous dragon dance, created by ASD Teng Long of San Giorgio a Cremano. For those who do not know, the Chinese tradition combines, to each lunar year, an animal sign according to a precise rotation between 12 elements; unlike the Western Zodiac Calendar where the signs are fixed.

Before the start of the new year, Chinese families use to clean their homes to ward off bad luck and, just like in Italy, it is a popular custom to use strictly Red. The morning of the last year, we go to the family to wish good wishes and in the afternoon we participate in the traditional dances of the lion and the dragon.

In the evening, the big party begins with pyrotechnic shows and the famous ones Chinese lanterns, used to guide benevolent spirits to their homes. On 21 February 2015, therefore, Napoli will host a new year full of colors and entertainment, enclosing the hopes, dreams and expectations for the start of a new Chinese year.
