Netflix, the subscription with advertising arrives: how much it costs and launch date

It's official: Netflix is about to throw a new base plan which, unlike the existing ones, will be much cheaper but in exchange, it will contain advertising spots and that will be called Basic plan with advertising. When will it debut? And how will it work?

When does the subscription with advertising arrive in Italy?

Il Basic Plan with Netflix advertising in Italy it will be, as the name suggests, a floor with basic features but which, contrary to what happens to date on the well-known streaming platform, will contain commercials. All to the advantage of a very low monthly cost compared to the others (about 1/3 less), that is 5,49 €.

Il debut of the new Basic Plan with advertising it is now very close and will involve, in the space of a week, many nations all over the world. It will start from 1 November and will end on 10 November 2022, with an intermediate stage, that of 3 November, which will involve the largest number of countries. In detail:

  • November 1, 2022: Canada and Mexico;
  • 3 November 2022 17 hours: Italy, together with the USA, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany and Korea;
  • November 10 2022: Spain and the United Kingdom.

How will the advertising subscription work?

The functioning of Netflix's new Basic Plan with advertising will be very similar to what we are used to seeing on TV. On the basis of what has been communicated, as a rule, about every 60 minutes, 4-5 minutes will be of commercials. There will be some differences, in this regard, between new and old content. For the former, there will be an ad block before starting (a bit like in the cinema); for the second ones, instead, the first block will be transmitted at the beginning and the next one more or less in the middle. The resolution will be 720p e you will not be able to use the download function.

even the number of titles available will see a reduction: everything, in fact, will depend on the type of license provided for each content. Thanks to the collaboration with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Service from 2023 it will come verified how much traffic the advertising generates in order to represent a useful tool for each individual advertiser. Speaking of advertising, it is worth adding that the commercials will never have political themes, related to violence, tobacco or anything else Netflix deems inappropriate.
