Why is Noos called that way?
A question may arise: why the new science outreach program of Alberto Angela was baptized"noos“? This transmission, which takes the place of the famous “SuperQuarks“, conducted by the late Piero Angela, father of Alberto, starts broadcasting from 29 June 2023.
Alberto Angela and his team have carefully chosen the name of this new program. In fact, as explained by Angela himself, the intent of television should be to "feed the brains, not put them to sleep“. This guiding principle is reflected in the title of the programme: “noos“, an ancient term which, in classical Greek, can be translated as “intellect“. And so, the journey of the intellect inevitably leads to knowledge and knowing.
The choice of "noos” as the name of the program has an even deeper meaning. Piero Angela, in 1998, had presented a program entitled “Journey to the cosmos“, characterized by the presence of a virtual spaceship called “noos“. The name reflected the intention of Piero Angela to move “at the speed of thought from one point of the universe to another”.
