In the Molo Caligoliano of Pozzuoli the traditional Pennone a Mare takes place with the balance competition between fishermen and fireworks in the evening!
Sunday August 26 2018 a Pozzuoli the traditional folkloric event takes place "Pennone a Mare - Soap Pole"Which sees the participation of local fishermen and it will end with one evening fireworks show, all in the Caligoliano pier. Generally it takes place in August, but this year has been extended due to the tragic events in Genoa.
The festival takes place every year because the puteolan fishermen want to pay homage and show all their own devotion to the Assumption Madonna, protector of the seafarers. So, just in homage to the Assumption of Mary, there will be the race to the last flag among the fishing boats. Basically, the fishermen try to walk in balance on a long flagpole trying to get as close as possible to the flags.
Furthermore, after the mass at 18.00 pm in the Church of the Assunta a Mare, in the fishermen's dock, the statue of the Virgin will be brought to procession in the streets of the historic center.

Fireworks
The fireworks show will start at 23.00pm, always at the Molo Caligoliano and is organized by the Municipality of Pozzuoli as an exception to the rule that normally prohibits fireworks throughout the territory. It will be a truly impressive show.
