On Sunday 11 May 2014 the Rione Terra di Pozzuoli will reopen with an official ceremony inside the restored cathedral. Here is the program of the day

"There is a neighborhood where the chapters of Pozzuoli's long history overlapped in a unique way, a p0 ′ like the pages of a book and it is the Rione Terra".

So Piero Angela, a few years ago, described the historian Rione Terra of Pozzuoli, now closed by 1970 due to the increasingly strong bradyseism that hit the territory in those years.
Finally, though, things have changed and since Sunday May 11 there will be the official reopening of the Cathedral restored, with the bishop ceremony Gennaro Pascarella.

Fifty years after the serious fire that caused its closure, the cathedral will once again be accessible to the public. At 18.30 hours next Sunday it will be possible to attend the ceremony presided over by the bishop, in the presence of the mayor Vincenzo Figliola, the councilors and municipal councilors of Pozzuoli, the city and regional authorities, the parish priests of the diocese, exponents of the world of culture and productive activities.

You can only participate on invitation, but access to the cathedral will be allowed only until 17.30 pm, for organizational reasons. Before the start of the mass, from 17.30 there will be the procession of the Patron Saints, which will start from the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and, crossing Largo Santa Maria delle Grazie, will arrive on Via Cesare Augusto, Piazza della Repubblica, Corso della Repubblica, Via Marconi and will reach the Basilica at the Rione Terra.
After the end of the mass, all citizens will be able to visit the cathedral until late at night. In any case, visits will be allowed, from the following weekends, every Saturday and Sunday.

Mass will also be projected on two giant screens placed at the entrance of the district and in Piazza della Repubblica.
Furthermore, in anticipation of the enormous influx of visitors, the municipality will prepare five parking lots with free shuttles to and from the Rione Terra, in the following places: the Multi-storey in via Gerolomini, the parking inside the Air Force Academy and the parking lots in the Olivetti District, in the former Sofer area in via Fasano, in the Urban Park of Via Vecchia delle Vigne. Throughout the day on Sunday, until after midnight, you can also use the usual car parks of the Caligoliano Pier, the Wholesale Fish Market, Largo Palazzine and Largo Emporio. Private buses can use the parking lot of the park in via Vecchia delle Vigne.

A really important event for the citizens and for the municipality of Pozzuoli, which again allows anyone to take advantage of one of the most important places in its history, the Rione Terra. Inside you can really walk through the centuries and relive the times when the area was one of the most important ports of Rome, before the birth of Ostia.
