Il Pomodorino of the Piennolo del Vesuvio PDO it is one of the typical products of Campania agriculture, produced and cultivated above all in the Vesuvian territory, within the area included in the volcanic complex of Mount Somma - Vesuvius. This tomato variant owes its name to the characteristic "Piennolo", that is the "lace" that it presents at its end, or due to the tradition of the Vesuvian peasants of weaving the cherry tomatoes around a string, making small clusters to form a large cluster, the "piennolo" in fact, which is then hung in a dry and ventilated environment.
cercola, in the province of Naples, is one of the municipalities specialized in the cultivation of Piennolo tomato and where for five years a festival dedicated to the famous and tasty Vesuvian tomato was held.
La Sagra del Pomodorino del Piennolo, now in its fifth edition, will be held from 18 to 20 July 2014 to Cercola, in Viale dei Platani 1 starting at 19:00. On the program, in addition to tasting of tomato-based specialties (fresh, flavored and baked), also entertainment shows enriched by the comedy of Made in South cabaret artists and from the music selected by Radio Marte.
They will be able to enjoy at the stands:

- Gnocchi with seafood sauce (with complimentary pan)
- Hot staples cooked on the spot
- Italian fry
- Big surprise with Piennolo and giant Fresella
