Gianni Morandi, interviewed by Francesca Fagnani towards the end of the second evening of the Sanremo Festival 2023, recounts an embarrassing episode in which he was the protagonist and in which he (literally) pissed himself. Here's what happened.
We are used to seeing Gianni Morandi as a kind and polite gentleman of the past, as well as a singer who, despite his 78 years, still maintains the appearance of the good boy.
Yesterday however, towards the end of the second evening of the Sanremo Festival 2023, told a unprecedented and embarrassing episode in which he was the protagonist: that time when, during a concert in Falerna, he (literally) pissed himself!
What happened? It all started from Francesca Fagnani, co-host of the second evening and hostess of the program Beasts (in which VIPs are "torn to pieces") who, after having three stools carried onto the Ariston stage, began his mini-interview (he asked four questions, first to Gianni Morandi, then ad Amadeus) by asking Gianni Morandi to talk about “that episode in Falerna.”
Gianni Morandi first gets embarrassed, then reveals "I usually never have dinner before concerts, but that time..."
At first, as expected, Gianni Morandi appare very embarrassed, but then, albeit with some difficulty, he begins to tell candidly:
“Usually I never have dinner before concerts, but that time in Falerna, I was in Calabria, I treated myself to a fish-based dinner washed down with plenty of wine. During the concert, however, at a certain point I began to feel bad and also to feel strange bubbling in my stomach.”
Morandi also specifies that, that evening, he was wearing white trousers and a blue shirt. At first he tries to “ignore the urge” but then, after a while, not making it anymore and there being no toilets in the immediate vicinity (the concert was on Falerna beach), decides to take advantage of an "instrumental break" to try to "retire" and resolve.

Near the beach there was a fence and, to have some privacy, he tried to jump over it and go to a place away from prying eyes. In doing so, however, he fell to the ground, made several "loops" style tumbles and, right at that moment, the irreparable happened: he literally pissed himself!
“When I then returned to the concert venue, the trousers were of an indefinable and disgusting color. To continue the concert I had to borrow the pants from the drummer, who continued to play in his underwear.”
Gianni Morandi however he is not the only one to boast an embarrassing episode of this kind in his Curriculum Vitae: Pupo, in a 2016 interview, he said that, a few years earlier, she had literally pissed herself during a concert at Zungri, in the province of Vibo Valentia, and he too (coincidentally) was dressed in white:
“I constantly needed to go to the bathroom, the lactic ferments I was taking hadn't yet borne fruit. Due to the strain of the vocal commitment and the simultaneous movement of the body, I pushed more than usual and let go of what I thought at the time was a fart and which instead turned out to be, unfortunately, the opening tap of an authentic river of shit .”
