The delicious sfogliatella Santarosa will be the queen of Conca dei Marini!
Until August 21 2015, Conca dei Marini will be held on "Santarosa Conca festival", the gastronomic feast that the 2 August will dedicate a day to the sfogliatella.
The tasty event, now in its fourth edition and organized by the Municipality of Conca dei Marini and the ALOE Merchants Association, presents itself with a rich program of activities started in June with the renowned gastronomic competition that saw the competition of pastry chefs and barmen from all over Italy.
And after the victory of Giuseppe Manilia, decreed by Sal De Riso and other great confectioners, the rich kermesse continues delighting the public with tastings of excellent sfogliatelle and numerous events.
Predominant theme of the party is "La Santarosa ... in pink!", a title created to commemorate the legend of the birth of the sfogliatella Santarosa.
About it the legend tells that near the kitchen wall of the Santa Rosa cloistered monastery there was a small slit used by a nun to pass a piece of bread to a poor farmer every day. According to the story, the nun invented a pastry that she gave to the man one day instead of the usual bread. The next day the woman found a beautiful rose in the cleft, as a sign of thanks for the excellent kindness given. From that episode the name of that new pastry was probably born, which since then has been called Sfogliatella Santarosa.
