Glimpses on the New Past, conference in Salerno on the Ancient World

The University of Salerno has announced theOrganization of an academic event: the International Conference “Unconventional views on the ancient world“. It will take place on 13 and 14 June at the Southern Apennines Observatory. The aim of the conference is to challenge traditional conceptions and to explore new perspectives on the ancient world.

The conference will address complex issues such as the relationship between oikos (the home, the family) and polis (the city-state), the reflection on the conflict seen through the lens of Nicole Loraux's studies, and the analysis of the role and place of the other in society. These topics will be covered by eminent scholars from various universities, both Italian and international.

The Conference Programme

The two days of the conference were organized with a well-defined structure, which includes presentations, discussions and breaks for refreshments.
Each day will be introduced by institutional greetings, followed by a series of presentations by scholars.

  6. 11:30 – Speech by Francesco Vitale (DiSPaC) on the theme “Perspectives on the relationship between oikos and polis: Hannah Arendt and Nicole Loraux”
