Sik Sik, Eduardo's magical creator on stage at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples
An unpublished version of Eduardo's comedy "Sik Sik, the magic craftsman" is staged at the Teatro Nuovo, with Benedetto Casillo, directed by Pierpaolo Sepe
He will debut at New Theater of Naples Wednesday 29 January 2014 the comedy Sik Sik, the magical architect, a milestone of the Edwardian theater, in the most contemporary version of the director Pierpaolo Sepand, performed by famous Neapolitan actor Benedetto Casillo.
The show was written in the 1929 and was represented just at the New Theater of Naples in the 1930, applauded by critics and public. Eduardo De Filippo inserted it into his collection The Cantata of the even days, and in 1979 made the single act wider, so much so that it was performed for the duration of an entire evening.
The plot tells of an illusionist who performs in low-level theaters and squares, accompanied by his assistant and pregnant wife Giorgetta, to try to raise their miserable economic condition. On stage we see him struggling with a performance where something goes wrong, especially because he is forced to replace his late assistant with an inexperienced passer-by. From here the comical and hilarious situations are triggered, due to the loss of the lock of the trunk in which his poor wife finds herself inexorably trapped.

A "gem" not to be missed in this show: the original audio recording last Sik Sik interpreted by Eduardo, a Sunday in May of 1979 at San Ferdinando, before retiring from the scene, kept and transcribed by the theater critic Giulio Baffi. The text was given to the director Pierpaolo Sepe, who was therefore able to insert in his staging unprecedented jokes and improvisations, which magically came to life thanks to that forgotten tape but which has preserved the immortality of the theater, of "A bitter text but with irresistible comic ideas".
