In the Italian television scene, the return of a historical series as "Sissi" on Channel 5rrepresents a much anticipated event. From Tuesday 6 June, in prime time, the legendary life of the Austro-Hungarian Empress Elisabeth Amalia Eugenie of Wittelsbach, better known as Sissi, will be brought to the screens again.

The plot

Full of emotion, passion and struggle for the power, the plot of the series focuses on life of Sissi, Austro-Hungarian sovereign, in a reinterpretation designed for a new generation of viewers. The Sisi character is represented in its complexity, showing both his internal struggles – neuroses, obsessions, depressive thoughts and difficulty in accepting himself – and his external struggles, fighting the rigid dictates of the court and pursuing his own ideals.

The central element of the plot is the love deep and tormented between Sissi and Franz, immersed in a context of magnificent locations, sumptuous costumes and intriguing power games.

How many episodes are there

The “Sissi” series consists of you are betting. Each episode offers a unique perspective on the life of Empress Elisabeth, giving viewers insight into her life, from her role as ruler to her love for Franz, to her tragic end.

On Canale 5 they will be broadcast in blocks of three episodes each Tuesday (so for two Tuesdays):

  • Sisi 1×01: 6 June 2023
  • Sisi 1×02: 6 June 2023
  • Sisi 1×03: 6 June 2023
  • Sisi 1×04: 13 June 2023
  • Sissi 1×05: 13 June 2023
  • Sisi 1×06: 13 June 2023

When it ends

The first season of Sissi rerun on Canale 5 will end on June 13, 2023 with the airing of the sixth episode, broadcast at 23.36. We don't know if a second season rerun will arrive later.
