The theme of the show on Caravaggio
Radolovich, a cynical merchant, commissioned a Madonna to Caravaggio with a child in her arms, a mediocre subject according to the artist. The painting was certainly paid in advance for 200 ducats, according to a credit note found in the Historical Archive of the Banco di Napoli. Nevertheless there is no trace of it in Naples, giving rise to many hypotheses.
Has the picture ever been realized? He entered the composition of the Seven works of Mercy? Is it unfinished or has it been completed by others? Or was it brought to Vienna, where a Madonna of the Rosary seems to embody the characteristics of the Radolovich commission? These questions will be addressed in this show, which will be possible participate only by booking.
