A small southern company of Rocco Papaleo will be on stage at the Diana Theater in Naples in a sort of song theater experiment
If we think about "A small southern company“, Immediately we are reminded of the film by Rocco Papaleo which in the past few weeks has met with some success in Italian cinemas.
This time, however, we want to talk about a theatrical version of it, which Papaleo himself wanted to bring to the stage Teatro Diana of Naples. More than a theatrical transposition, however, it is an alternative way to tell the true essence of our South through a song theater experiment.
Il theater song he has always been dear to Rocco Papaleo, a profound lover of the “musical gesture”, both in his capacity as an actor (of cinema and theater), and in that of cabaret artist. So much so that even the film version of his work opens with a sort of musical narration, through which the protagonist of the events tells himself and his destiny.
And it is Papaleo himself who tells us that his show wants to be a sort of diario “To be browsed at random”, full of “short notes, rhymes left unfinished, words that were looking for music, funny stories or those that appear to me when I reread them now”. An enterprise made southern also by the registry office, as the artist continues to explain, as all the members of his band, including him, come from our south, which has so much to tell.
A south where the southern question it is nothing more than “a time difference, a jet lag of contemporaneity that often numbs our ambitions”.
That's why, together with 5 other artists and musicians, Papaleo, together with Valter Lupo, will tell us about their south, the one in which the theater must be close at hand, to give us the opportunity to hold many others like ours.
