Gardens and domus will be opened exceptionally for 2017 Valentine's visits to the House of the Casti Amanti in Pompeii.
From 11 to 14 February 2017, thanks to the extraordinary opening of the House of the “Casti Lovers on the occasion of the feast of Valentine's day, will be visible to the publicafresh of the "chaste lovers", in which are portrayed a man and a woman kissing while lying on the triclinium beds during the banquet, and which is located in the domus of the archaeological site of Pompei.
From next March, instead, a call for tender will start Great Pompeii project, for the assignment of urgent and large ones restoration of the domus which will last about three years and which will allow to carry out excavations to complete the routes, a new roof, in addition to the restoration and security of the 3 thousand square meters of the place.
The complex includes the Casa-panificio dei Casti Lovers, the House of the First Cenacolo colonnato, that of the Second Cenacolo, two shops and the Casa dei Pittori a Lavoro.
Precious frescoes, a bakery, skeletons of donkeys that turned the millstones in via dell'Abbondanza, show us the signs of the eruption that changed the city of Pompeii, but over time it has become a forest of props and scaffolding that will now be eliminated.
Visitors, climbing the metal stairs that lead to the catwalks, will be able to look from above at the bakery and the frescoed rooms and porticoed garden. The visit on two levels will remain even at the end of the restoration.
