The program of Rai Cultura "Northwest Passage“, conceived and conducted by Alberto Angela, takes viewers on a fascinating journey through history and traditions. Broadcast on April 15 at 15 pm on Rai 1.

The journey starts from Pesariis, a fraction of Prato Carnico in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where there is an open-air clock museum. There Val Pesarina it is known as the Valle Del Tempo, since the clocks for the towers, town halls and bell towers of the whole of Friuli-Venezia Giulia have been produced there since the 17th century – a tradition that continues today.

Bastille Day and the French Revolution

The program retraces the key moments of the storming of the Bastille, crucial event of the French Revolution. Through interviews with experts, 3D models and reconstructions, spectators will rediscover the history of this legendary building and relive the armed clashes and military strategies of that memorable day, which gave rise to a wave that swept the whole world.

The world of gladiators in the Roman Empire

“Northwest Passage” also explores the world of gladiators in the Roman Empire, investigating how they were recruited, where they came from and how long their careers lasted. The program moves to 127 AD in a remote province of Roman Gaul, where we follow the story of Titulus, a young nobleman and rebellious gambler who becomes a successful gladiator.

Røros, the Norwegian city that defies winter

In central Norway, the small town of Roros, included in the Unesco heritage, faces the harsh winter of the Arctic Circle with surprising vitality, demonstrating how it is possible to thrive despite extreme weather conditions.

The Fallas of Valencia, a popular festival of fire and satire

Finally, the program visits Valencia between March 14 and 19, to discover the great popular festival of Fallas. These artistic wood and papier-mâché constructions, characterized by ironic and satirical themes, represent a complex scene at the center of which is a symbolic image. The highlight of the party is the Cream, the burning of the Fallas, which marks the grand finale and the beginning of a new cycle.
