Campania, De Luca: no to the mix of vaccines

Vincenzo De Luca
0: 00 / 0: 00

The Governor of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca has clearly expressed himself on the events concerning viral vector vaccines, such as AstraZeneca, and has declared that in our Region they will no longer be administered and that It is forbidden to carry out a mix of vaccines. It means the Governor is against having the two doses administered using two different vaccines.

The question, as we unfortunately know, arose after the death of an 18-year-old girl who was given the AstraZeneca vaccine (her case is being investigated to see if there was a correlation). Following this affair, it was decided to give this vaccine only to over 60s and, for this reason, people under 60 and younger who have already received a dose of AstraZeneca are considering giving a different vaccine for the second dose.

No to the mix of vaccines in Campania

The Prediente De Luca said he was against the mix of vaccines by writing on his own Facebook page that:

  • who, over the 60 years, has already received the first dose of Astrazeneca can also receive the second with the same vaccine by completing the course;
  • The during 60 (except those in their twelfth week) will have no vaccines other than the first dose, based on scientific concerns that will be sent.

In Campania no viral vector vaccines

Vincenzo De Luca also wrote that in Campania viral vector vaccines will no longer be administered, at any age group (excluding the cases referred to in the second point in the previous paragraph) at the first dose. Currently, the viral vector vaccines are AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

Doubts about the vaccination campaign

The Governor also addresses a appeal to the Government asking for greater clarity, especially on the terms used. You should be more decisive and avoid expressions such as "not recommended, not recommended, etc.", using strong and clear expressions such as "it is forbidden" or "It is allowed".

People's trust in the vaccination campaign is taking a hit due to doubts about AstraZeneca, so it's important to rebuild the relationship of trust. According to De Luca, the Commissioner should have a purely technical-operational function, devoting himself to the distribution of vaccines, while a person from the Ministry of Health should be responsible for providing the guidelines.

Vaccines suspended at the pharmacy

For these reasons Vaccinations in pharmacies have also been suspended in Campania.
