Historical reenactments, coronations, concerts and excursions for the Byzantine New Year in Amalfi!

August 31st and September 1st 2016, the cities of Amalfi and Atrani, in Salerno, will celebrate the Byzantine New Year, which marks the beginning of the fiscal and legal year in the era of the Eastern Empire.

This evocative event is one historical re-enactment made with excursions, meetings e concerts che will celebrate the culture of the coast, the administrative importance and the seafaring civilization that made the Maritime Republic of Amalfi flourish, today an enchanting tourist place.

A study conference on Middle Ages amalfitano followed by the election of Magister of Amalfi Civilization and the re-enactment with thecoronation of the Dukes of Amalfi.
This last moment will be attended by the Historical Parade that will accompany the Magister from Amalfi to the churchyard of the Chapel of San Salvatore de 'Birecto in Atrani, for the investiture ceremony in the presence of the Archbishop.

The Magister will reach the steps of the Cathedral of S. Andrea in Amalfi for the official presentation to the citizens. This title is awarded each year to a personality that has distinguished itself particularly in a sector of medieval Amalfi culture, from entrepreneurship to politics, from science to seafaring.

The music program includes two large ones free concerts: the August 31 will perform Teresa de Sio, while on September 1 it will be the turn of James Senese with Central Naples. Both concerts will take place in Piazza Municipio 21.30.
