Il Carnival of Montemarano confirms itself as an unmissable event in the heart of Campania, celebrating its 2024 edition with a series of events that enliven the'Alta Irpinia from 9 to 18 February.

The famous annual festival is famous for its lively spiritee its ability to unite the community, this year opens with the theme “Carnival of Cultures”, promising total immersion in local traditions with an eye to the cultural dimension.

Program

Friday February 9

  • 21pm, Municipal Auditorium: “Carnival of Cultures”, concert with Biagio de Prisco (the voice of tradition) and special guest Simone Carotenuto. Followed by Upgrade with Francesco Loccisano and Andrea Piccioni, organized by the Ass. Tarantella Montemaranese School.

Saturday February 10

  • 15pm, Palazzo Castello: Cultural meeting “Na botta e tarantella”, with Tarantella lesson by the Ass. Tarantella Montemaranese School.
  • 17pm, Municipal Auditorium: Cultural meeting “Caporabballo d'Argento”, organized by the association. ProMontemarano.
  • 22pm, Through the streets of the town: “O boast 'and challenge”, night parade of masked processions.

Sunday February 11

  • 10pm, Through the streets of the town: Parade of school and nursery school children with the “Zompa Cardillo” folk group, organized by the A. Di Meo Comprehensive Institute and the Municipal Children's Centre.
  • 11pm, Piazza del Popolo: Opening of the Carnival with greeting and speech from the Mayor of Montemarano.
  • 11pm, Palazzo Castello: Tarantella lesson by the Ass. Tarantella Montemaranese School.
  • 15pm, Through the streets of the town: Traditional masked parades.
  • 21pm, Market Square: Dancing in the square with “Musica Solare”.

Monday February 12

  • 16pm, Through the streets of the town: Traditional masked parades.
  • 21pm, Market Square: Dances in the square with “Orchestra Achille”.

Tuesday February 13

  • From 10:00, Palazzo Castello: Tarantella lesson by the Ass. Tarantella Montemaranese School.
  • 15pm, Through the streets of the town: Traditional masked parades.
  • 21pm, Market Square: Dancing in the square with “Mediterranean Melody”.

Saturday February 17

  • 17pm, Palazzo Castello: Award ceremony of the Certificate of Merit to Domenico Mongiello and the D'Agnese brothers.

Sunday February 18

  • 10pm, Palazzo Castello: Tarantella lesson by the Ass. Tarantella Montemaranese School.
  • 16pm, Through the streets of the town: “Dead Carnival”, carnival funeral procession and reading of the will.
  • 21pm, Market Square: Dancing in the square with “Battista Band”. The traditional breaking of the "pignata" follows.

At the same time, the Montemaranese Tarantella confirms itself as the beating heart of the event, with lessons open to all, guided byTarantella Montemaranese School Association. Dance, which has been transmitted with passion and dedication for over fifteen years, represents not only a moment of aggregation but also of profound connection with the cultural roots of the place.

Participants, guided by expert teachers, have the opportunity to learn the steps of this ancient dance, living an immersive experience that goes far beyond simple fun.
