New Ordinance of the Civil Protection on the sale of masks and other protective devices in pharmacies for the Coronavirus emergency!
La Civil protection has issued one new ordinance which also allows the sale of individual personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks, by pharmacies. The purpose of the measure is to regulate the distribution of these devices by pharmacies.
In particular, the ordinance indicates the mode to be followed to safely handle the packaging, the maximum price of the individual units and the information that pharmacies must give to the consumer.
Health and hygiene rules to be respected by the Pharmacies
To proceed with the opening of packages, the pharmacy must ensure compliance with the correct operations to be carried out. In particular, it must evaluate the factors that guarantee the preservation of the microbiological quality of each PPE, in order to keep the sources of contamination under control.
The following are the standards that each Pharmacy must respect when handling the product:
- hand hygiene with hydroalcoholic products or washing with soap and water
- respiratory hygiene through the use of face masks
- gloves

Price of the individual masks and protective devices
The Ordinance establishes that the retail sale of even one unit of PPE without reference packaging must provide a price lower than or equal to the amount foreseen for the single package divided by the number of PPE present in it.
Consumer information
According to the Consumer Code and the sector regulations mentioned in the Ordinance the information to be provided to the customer I'm:
- legal or product name of the product
- name or business name or trademark and the registered office of the manufacturer or an importer established in the European Union
- country of origin if located outside the European Union
- possible presence of materials or substances that can cause damage to humans, things or the environment
- materials used and processing methods where these are decisive for the quality or product characteristics of the product
- instructions, any precautions and intended use, where useful for the use and safety of the product.
- date of manufacture or expiry date and body / authority which issued the certification / authorization.
