"Diego - I will never be an ordinary man" tells of the attempt to redeem the city of Naples through the football genius of Diego Armando Maradona

Il football as an opportunity to redemption, but also strong anesthetic for the Neapolitan population: this is the basic theme of the show "Diego - I will never be a common man”On stage the Piccolo Bellini theater in Naples.

The sporting passion for football, especially in our city, has always taken on very special and profound features, especially considering the exceptional period in which Naples had among its protagonists the player Diego Armando Maradona.

Dios, El Pibe de Oro, Diego or whatever you call it, is almost certainly the greatest footballer of all time and, precisely through its immense sporting deeds, the theater piece wants to tell the story of a Naples increasingly in disarray.

The show, staged by the Scampia Company, tells some of the most dramatic pages in the history of Naples. From the heroin war to the totonero, from the closure of the Italsider to the unemployment and pollution of Campania Felix: all issues from which the Neapolitan seeks redemption; redemption that he can often find only in football and in that magical left foot of Diego. Diego, theArgentine-Neapolitan who comes from below, who can understand the problems of the city that is very close to him.

We are in the mid-80s, in 1984 to be precise, the year in which Maradona arrives in Naples and is about to write pages that will remain in history.
the 1984 is the year in which Naples is still an "earthquake" city, in which the Camorra and political corruption are the masters, a period in which unemployment reaches very high levels and young people take refuge inheroin; we are over the years a government resolution declares Naples a city with a high environmental risk, the sea is very polluted and in which the underground betting seems to be the only salvation.

In this context, the arrival of the Pibe de Oro, on July 5, 1984, of that boy who has known poverty and hunger, represents a real redemption opportunity. It is about "Relief valve of the frustrations and tensions of everyday life, expresses the rebellion against the ticking of clocks, the diktats of history and the ordinaryness of the scandals, corruption erected as a system and various connivances ”.

Although everything can look like a beautiful story, where the problems of an entire people can be solved by the magic of a left foot, the downsides they are not lacking and they begin to prevail. As always happened in history, even in this case football comes politicized and used by power for manipulate the masses and put the minds to sleep. The capacity for dissent is turned off and even Maradona, unconsciously, becomes the tool of a corrupt system aimed at extinguishing consciences.

The theme is explained through the fictional love story between two young people, Lello and Tonia, who "They try to carve out their own little corner but that will inevitably be crushed".
The show was produced from below, through a successful crowdfunding operation, with which 250 people bought tickets many months before the debut to finance the company.
